FISH
4 - 8-ounce halibut steaks
3/4 cup(s) chicken broth
3 tablespoon(s) butter, melted
1 clove(s) garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
1/4 teaspoon(s) dried marjoram
1/8 teaspoon(s) black pepper
1 - lemon, thinly sliced
2 teaspoon(s) fresh parsley, chopped
SOUR CREAM-DILL SAUCE
8 ounce(s) sour cream
1 tablespoon(s) white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon(s) celery salt
1 teaspoon(s) dried dillweed
1/2 teaspoon(s) sugar

Steps:

  • For the fish: Place steaks in an ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Pour broth over the steaks; drizzle with butter.
  • Sprinkle with the garlic, salt, marjoram, and pepper. Top with the lemon slices. Sprinkle with parsley.
  • Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. Serve with the sauce.
  • For the sauce, combine all ingredients. Chill.

Tips:

  • Choose the right halibut: Select firm, opaque flesh with a mild, slightly sweet flavor. Avoid fish that is discolored or has a strong odor.
  • Cook the halibut gently: Halibut is a delicate fish that can be easily overcooked. Bake or poach it at a low temperature until it is just cooked through.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This recipe calls for broccoli and carrots, but you can use any vegetables that you like. Some other good options include asparagus, green beans, and bell peppers.
  • Make sure the sour cream mixture is creamy: Use full-fat sour cream and whisk it until it is smooth. If the mixture is too thick, add a little milk or cream.
  • Serve the halibut and sour cream bake immediately: This dish is best served hot out of the oven. It can be garnished with chopped fresh herbs, such as parsley or dill.

Conclusion:

Halibut and sour cream bake is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. The fish is cooked gently in a creamy sauce, and the vegetables add a pop of flavor and color. This dish is sure to please everyone at the table.
