SEVEN-LAYER DIP
For this recipe, the traditional 7-layer dip has been revisited so that each layer is good enough to eat on its own, but isn't so much effort that the whole thing can't be finished in 20 minutes. The order of the layers offers some delightful moments, like where the cheese melts into the warm refried beans or where the cool sour cream meets the fiery salsa. Cilantro and scallions serve as a refreshing counterpoint, and Fritos lend added crunch. No need to dig out your trifle bowl: A platter with a lip is preferred here for easier scooping.

A fast, easy dip -- a little bit different than the other 7-layer dips because of the bean & bacon soup. Cook time is the refrigeration time.

Steps:
- 1. In a small bowl, combine the bean & bacon soup with the taco seasoning packet and the hot taco sauce; stir until well blended. On a large serving plate or platter, spread the mixture into approximately a 6" round.
- 2. Spread the sour cream on top of the bean mixture, leaving approximately 1/2" of the bean mixture exposed (so you can see the bottom bean mixture all the way around).
- 3. Layer the chilies, avocado, cheese, lettuce and tomato over the sour cream, leaving each layer a little exposed so you can see all seven layers of the dip.
- 4. Cover and refrigerate until serving time (at least four hours). Serve with chips & veggies.
Tips:
- Prep ahead: To save time, you can make the guacamole and pico de gallo up to 24 hours in advance. Just store them in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator. Then, when you're ready to assemble the dip, simply bring them to room temperature.
- Choose the right chips: Tortilla chips are the classic choice for 7-layer dip, but you can also use pita chips, potato chips, or even crackers. Just make sure the chips are sturdy enough to hold up to the dip.
- Layer the dip in the correct order: The order of the layers is important for the best flavor and texture. Start with the refried beans, then add the guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, olives, and green onions.
- Chill the dip before serving: This will help the layers to set and make the dip easier to scoop. Chill the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Serve with your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings for 7-layer dip include diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, chopped cilantro, and sliced jalapenos. You can also serve the dip with a side of salsa or hot sauce.
Conclusion:
7-layer dip is a classic party appetizer that is always a crowd-pleaser. It's easy to make, customizable, and delicious. With a few simple tips, you can make the best 7-layer dip that will wow your guests. So next time you're planning a party, be sure to give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
