PAN-SEARED 5-SPICE TILAPIA W/ HOT-ORANGE-GINGER SAUCE

Pan-Seared 5-Spice Tilapia W/ Hot-Orange-Ginger Sauce image

Spice rubs are the perfect way to jazz up mild-flavored fish and poultry. This rub - a blend of spices, herbs, salt, sugar and oil - transforms into a falvorful crust when cooked. Here we brushed the tilapia with a combination of Chinese Five-Spice Powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and oil. A purchased blend of Chinese Five-Spice Powder or one you have made is great - either one will work. CuisineAtHome.com: Issue 73 February 2009 edition. With the sauce - vary the amount of red pepper flakes to adjust the heat of the sauce to your liking.

GRILLED TILAPIA

Provided by Sageca

Categories     Tilapia

Time 15m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 lbs tilapia fillets
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon tsps cajun seasoning
1 teaspoon tsps Old Bay Seasoning
1 cup mayonnaise
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3/4 teaspoon dried tarragon

Steps:

  • Preheat grill.
  • Spread oil on both sides of filets.
  • Sprinkle with seasoning.
  • Place on hot grill and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes over a medium high heat. Turn once during grilling.
  • Serve with Aioli.
  • Prepare aioli by combining all ingredients in a bowl, mixing and then refrigerate until you are ready for use.
  • I served it with boiled new potatoes and green beans to dip in the Aioli.
  • I use Low fat mayonnaise.
  • Use seasoning of your choice.

Tips:

  • Select Fresh Tilapia Fillets: Choose firm, moist tilapia fillets with a vibrant pink or white color. Avoid fillets that are slimy or have a strong fishy odor.
  • Prepare the Marinade: The marinade is crucial for infusing flavor into the tilapia. Use fresh orange juice, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and honey for a well-balanced marinade.
  • Marinate the Tilapia: Allow the tilapia fillets to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight. This allows the flavors to penetrate the fish and tenderize it.
  • Preheat the Grill: Ensure your grill is preheated to medium-high heat before cooking the tilapia. This will help sear the fish and prevent it from sticking.
  • Grill the Tilapia: Place the marinated tilapia fillets on the preheated grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through. The fish should flake easily with a fork.
  • Serve with Desired Sides: Grilled orange-ginger tilapia pairs well with a variety of sides, such as steamed vegetables, roasted potatoes, or a fresh salad.

Conclusion:

Grilled orange-ginger tilapia is a flavorful and healthy dish that's perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal. The zesty marinade, infused with orange, ginger, and garlic, imparts a vibrant flavor to the tender tilapia fillets. Grilling the fish adds a slightly smoky taste while keeping it moist and flaky. Whether served with steamed vegetables, roasted potatoes, or a fresh salad, this grilled tilapia recipe is sure to delight your taste buds.
