Time 25m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 (14 ounce) cans green beans, cut
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, cut
1 (6 ounce) can of french's original French-fried onions
15 ounces original Cheese Whiz

Steps:

  • Place 3 cans of green beans and one can of sliced mushrooms in a saucepan. Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat thoroughly. Drain mixture and place back in saucepan.
  • Stir in 1 jar of Cheese Whiz until desired consistency is achieved. Cheese will be runny but it will solidify when the mixture cools.
  • Stir in 1/4 can of french fried onions and place mixture in a shallow baking dish. Put the remaining french fried onions on top of the casserole.
  • Bake in oven, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes until heated through. Best to use the name brand French's French Fried Onions Original, as the Cheese flavor and Generic versions are not as good.

CHEESY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

Cheesy Green Bean Casserole image

With a creamy sauce, perfectly al dente green beans, crunchy French fried onions and more in the mix, even traditionalists will have to admit this green bean casserole with cheese is delish. It's the perfect blend of old school and new school. Canned cream of mushroom soup and French fried onions ensure there's that classic creamy-crunchy texture contrast. Using frozen green beans, in place of canned, and fresh red bell pepper ensures veggies turn out crisp-tender and not at all mushy. Soy sauce is not detectable as a standalone ingredient, and it's not meant to be. Its role is to enhance the flavor of the entire dish with a spike of umami. And the cheese? That's just there to make sure it all goes down easy! So, if you've been tiptoeing around the traditional version of this dish-making it not because you love it, but because someone else does-you might find this twist is the perfect compromise!

Time 45m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 can (10 3/4 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese blend (4 oz)
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 bag (12 oz) frozen cut green beans, thawed, drained
1 small red bell pepper, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 1/2 cups cheddar crispy fried onions (from 6-oz can)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In 1 1/2-quart casserole, stir together soup, cheese blend and soy sauce. Stir in green beans, bell pepper and 1 cup of the onions.
  • Cover; bake about 30 minutes or until beans are tender and mixture is heated through. Stir; top with remaining 1/2 cup onions.
  • Bake uncovered about 5 minutes longer or until onions are brown and crisp.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 180, Carbohydrate 11 g, Cholesterol 15 mg, Fat 1 1/2, Fiber 2 g, Protein 5 g, SaturatedFat 5 g, ServingSize 1 Serving (1/2 cup), Sodium 480 mg, Sugar 3 g, TransFat 1 1/2 g

Tips:

  • Choose fresh green beans: Look for beans that are bright green and crisp. Avoid beans that are wilted or have brown spots.
  • Trim the green beans: Remove the ends of the beans and any strings that may be present.
  • Blanch the green beans: This process involves boiling the beans for a short time and then immediately transferring them to cold water. This helps to preserve their color and crunch.
  • Use a high-quality cheese whiz: Not all cheese whiz is created equal. Look for a brand that is made with real cheese and has a smooth, creamy texture.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: The casserole should be cooked until the green beans are tender but still have a slight crunch. Overcooking will make the beans mushy.

Conclusion:

Green bean casserole with cheese whiz is a classic comfort food dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your casserole with a lot of cheese or a little, with crispy onions or without, there is a recipe out there for you. So next time you are looking for a delicious and easy side dish, give green bean casserole with cheese whiz a try.
