GLUEHWEIN
Gluehwein is a German/Austrian winter-holiday drink that most tourists know as an after-ski drink. After you come in out of the snow, it is supposed to make you glow with warmth again. Watch it: Since you drink this wine warm, the alcohol goes to your head extra quick! Drink when you really have come in, and do not have to go out again! This is the one my father used to make for New Year's Eve.

GLUEHWEIN (GERMAN HOT WINE PUNCH)
This hot spiced wine punch is a staple at the Christmas festivites in Germany. Everywhere you go during the month of December, you will most likely find someone selling mugs of hot, steaming Gluehwein. Here is a version I adapted from "Authentic German Home-Style Recipes" by Gini Youngkrantz. Posted by request. I am guessing on the cook time - it should be just until hot, but NOT boiling.

Steps:
- 1. In large Dutch oven or a large coffee percolator. Put all spices into tea ball, if you do no have a tea ball use a coffee filter place into liquid.
- 2. pour into pan all wine, brown sugar, water, lemons and oranges, and apple slices. Heat till piping hot leave spices in wine. Stir and serve hot..........any left over wine pour into pitcher. You may reheat in micro wave or on stove cup at a time. Enjoy.....
Tips:
- When choosing a wine for Glühwein, opt for a fruity red wine with a medium body, such as Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Dornfelder, or Merlot.
- Use fresh, high-quality spices for the best flavor. Whole spices are preferred over ground spices, as they release their flavor more slowly and evenly.
- Don't boil the wine, as this will drive off the alcohol and ruin the flavor. Keep the temperature below 185°F (85°C) to preserve the wine's integrity.
- If you want a sweeter Glühwein, add some sugar or honey to taste. You can also add a splash of orange juice or brandy for a more complex flavor.
- Serve Glühwein warm, but not boiling hot. It should be served in heatproof mugs or glasses to keep it warm for longer.
Conclusion:
Glühwein is a delicious and festive holiday drink that is easy to make at home. With its warm, spicy flavor and inviting aroma, it's the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season with friends and family. So gather your ingredients, choose your favorite wine and spices, and get ready to enjoy a mug of this traditional German treat.
