This classic non-alcoholic punch - or Kinderpunsch, in German - is the perfect holiday drink without alcohol. Made from fruity tea, apple juice, and fragrant spices like cinnamon and cloves, this "kid's punch" smells of citrus, isn't too sweet, and is always a hit during the holidays!

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups water
3 bags of red fruit tea
1 cup apple juice
2 cinnamon sticks
5 cloves
1 lemon (organic)
1 orange (organic)
1 tablespoon sugar (more to taste)

Steps:

  • Start by bringing the water to a boil - either in a medium-sized pot on the stove or in an electric kettle. Add three tea bags to the hot water. Let the tea steep from the recommended time (usually 5-8 minutes).
  • In the meantime, wash your organic orange and lemon and cut them into slices. In case you can't find organic lemons or oranges, you can also remove the peel first.
  • Once the tea is done steeping, remove the tea bags (and add the tea to the pot if you haven't yet). Then add the apple juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, lemon slices, orange slices, and sugar into the pot as well and give everything a stir.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and heat the mixture on low heat for around 15 minutes. The mixture should not start boiling - it's only supposed to stay hot as the flavors mingle in the pot.
  • Taste the Kinderpunsch, add more sugar to taste, and then strain the drink to capture all the cloves and fruit slices. Serve the drink hot! You can garnish the Kinderpunsch with orange/lemon slices and/or cinnamon sticks before serving.

GLUEHWEIN (GERMAN HOT WINE PUNCH)

Gluehwein (German Hot Wine Punch) image

This hot spiced wine punch is a staple at the Christmas festivites in Germany. Everywhere you go during the month of December, you will most likely find someone selling mugs of hot, steaming Gluehwein. Here is a version I adapted from "Authentic German Home-Style Recipes" by Gini Youngkrantz. Posted by request. I am guessing on the cook time - it should be just until hot, but NOT boiling.

Provided by á-39535

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups apple juice
2 cups black tea
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 lemon
1 orange
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves

Steps:

  • Slowly heat the apple juice and tea in a pan. Squeeze the juice from the lemon and orange, keeping the peels. Add the lemon and orange juices, sugar, peels, and spices to the pan and heat without boiling. Carefully strain the mixture through a sieve and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that will give your punch a balanced flavor. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Simmer the apples and spices: This will help to infuse the punch with flavor and create a rich, complex taste.
  • Use fresh ginger: Fresh ginger will give your punch a more intense flavor than ground ginger.
  • Add a little honey: Honey will help to sweeten the punch and balance out the tartness of the apples.
  • Serve the punch warm: Non-alcoholic Glühwein is best served warm, so that the flavors can fully develop.

Conclusion:

Non-alcoholic Glühwein is a delicious and festive drink that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. So next time you are looking for a warm and comforting drink, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
