Here's what you need: lime rinds, sugar, ice, white rum, lime juice, lime rind simple syrup, fresh mint leaves, ginger beer, lime

Provided by Betsy Carter

Categories     Drinks

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 lime rinds, halved and squeezed, juice reserved for another use
1 cup sugar
ice
2 oz white rum
1 oz lime juice
1 oz lime rind simple syrup
4 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
ginger beer, to taste
1 slice lime, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the lime rinds and sugar. Toss to coat the rinds with the sugar, then cover. Let sit, stirring every 45 minutes, for about 4 hours, or until the sugar is completely dissolved and there's syrup in the bottom of the bowl.
  • Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pushing to extract as much liquid as possible. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
  • In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and mint leaves. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
  • Strain into a glass filled with ice and top with ginger beer.
  • Garnish with the slice of lime and mint leaves.
  • Enjoy!

Tips

  • Choose high-quality ingredients. Fresh mint leaves, juicy limes, and premium-quality rum are essential for making a great mojito. Don't skimp on the quality of your ingredients, as it will make a big difference in the taste of your drink.
  • Use a muddler to gently muddle the mint leaves and limes. This will release their flavors and aromas without overpowering the drink.
  • Add ginger syrup to taste. Ginger syrup adds a delicious spicy-sweet flavor to the mojito. Start with a small amount and add more to taste.
  • Shake all ingredients together with ice for 10 seconds. This will chill the drink and dilute it slightly, making it more refreshing.
  • Double strain into a glass filled with ice. This will remove any bits of mint leaves or lime pulp from the drink, leaving you with a smooth and refreshing mojito.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wedge. This adds a touch of color and freshness to the drink.

Conclusion

The ginger mint mojito is a refreshing and flavorful cocktail that's perfect for any occasion. With its combination of mint, lime, ginger, and rum, this mojito is sure to please everyone.
