1 large onion, diced
2 lbs ground beef
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
pepper
2 cups water
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

  • In a bowl, combine water and tomato sauce; mix well. Pour over beef mixture.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 50 minutes or until meat is no longer pink and rice is tender (do not stir).

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and equipment ready. This will help you stay organized and avoid any scrambling.
  • Use a large skillet: A large skillet will give you plenty of room to cook all of the ingredients without overcrowding them. This will help ensure that everything cooks evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet: If you overcrowd the skillet, the ingredients will not cook evenly and will likely become soggy. Cook the ingredients in batches if necessary.
  • Use a combination of cooking methods: Searing, browning, and braising are all great cooking methods for this dish. Searing the meat will give it a nice crust, while browning the vegetables will add flavor. Braising will help to tenderize the meat and vegetables and create a delicious sauce.
  • Season the dish well: Don't be afraid to season the dish with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. This will help to enhance the flavor of the ingredients.

Conclusion:

German skillet dinner is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little planning and preparation, you can have a delicious and satisfying meal on the table in no time.
