The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

THE ULTIMATE LIME MARGARITA

The Ultimate Lime Margarita image

You can't have a summer gathering without the great taste of Margarita's and chips with salsa. Make these ahead of time and they will be ready to serve when the party starts!

Provided by TishT

Categories     Beverages

Time 5m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup tequila
3/4 cup orange liqueur, such as triple sec
1 cup fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sugar
ice cube

Steps:

  • Combine first 4 ingredients in a 4-cup measuring cup.
  • FOR BLENDED MARGARITAS: Fill blender halfway with ice cubes.
  • Add half of margarita mixture.
  • Blend until mixture is thick and icy.
  • Divide between two glasses.
  • Repeat with more ice cubes and remaining margarita mixture.
  • FOR MARGARITAS ON THE ROCKS: Fill four glasses with ice cubes.
  • Divide margarita mixture among glasses and serve.
  • DO-AHEAD TIP: Margarita mixture can be made up to 8 hours ahead and prior to being blended with ice.
  • Cover and refrigerate.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh limes: The quality of your limes will greatly impact the taste of your margarita. Look for limes that are firm, heavy for their size, and have a bright green color. Avoid limes that are soft, shriveled, or have brown spots.
  • Use a good quality tequila: A good tequila will provide a smooth, flavorful base for your margarita. Look for a tequila that is 100% agave and has a reposado or añejo designation. These tequilas have been aged for a longer period of time, which gives them a more complex flavor.
  • Make your own simple syrup: Simple syrup is a mixture of equal parts sugar and water that is heated until the sugar dissolves. It is used to sweeten margaritas and other cocktails. You can make your own simple syrup at home in just a few minutes, or you can buy it pre-made at the store.
  • Use fresh mint or cilantro: Fresh mint or cilantro can add a refreshing flavor to your margarita. If you are using mint, be sure to bruise the leaves before adding them to the cocktail. This will release their flavor.
  • Serve your margarita chilled: Margaritas are best served chilled. You can chill your margarita by placing it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving, or you can serve it over ice.

Conclusion:

The margarita is a classic cocktail that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for any occasion. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious margarita at home that will impress your friends and family. So next time you are looking for a delicious and refreshing cocktail, give the margarita a try. You won't be disappointed!
