THE REAL MOJITO

The Real Mojito image

This is an authentic recipe for mojito. I sized the recipe for one serving, but you can adjust it accordingly and make a pitcher full. It's a very refreshing drink for hot summer days. Be careful when drinking it, however. If you make a pitcher you might be tempted to drink the whole thing yourself, and you just might find yourself talking Spanish in no time! Tonic water can be substituted instead of the soda water but the taste is different and somewhat bitter.

Time 10m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 6

10 fresh mint leaves
½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1 ½ fluid ounces white rum
½ cup club soda

Steps:

  • Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

Time 5m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 ounces vodka
12 fresh mint leaves
3/4 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice
3/4 ounce sugar syrup
3/4 ounce Chambord raspberry liquor
raspberries (to garnish) (optional)
mint sprig (to garnish) (optional)

Steps:

  • Muddle mint with vodka in base of shaker; add lime juice and sugar; shake with ice and strain into an ice-filled glass.
  • Top with soda and stir.
  • Serve in a collins glass, garnished with raspberry and mint sprigs.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your French Mojito will taste. This includes using fresh lime juice, mint leaves, and strawberries.
  • Choose a good quality rum: The rum you use will have a big impact on the flavor of your cocktail. Look for a light or white rum that is specifically made for cocktails.
  • Don't skimp on the simple syrup: Simple syrup helps to balance out the tartness of the lime juice and adds a touch of sweetness to the cocktail. It's easy to make at home by dissolving sugar in hot water.
  • Muddle the mint and strawberries gently: You don't want to crush the mint and strawberries completely, just bruise them enough to release their flavor.
  • Serve your French Mojito immediately: This cocktail is best enjoyed fresh, so don't make it ahead of time.

Conclusion:

The French Mojito is a refreshing and delicious twist on the classic mojito. With its combination of fresh lime juice, mint, strawberries, and rum, it's the perfect cocktail for any occasion. Whether you're enjoying it at a party or just relaxing at home, the French Mojito is sure to please.
