FIRESIDE COFFEE MIX

One of my great friends made a mug of this for me one winters day. She told me how her family always takes it along on camping trips. I just couldn't leave without the recipe. I have enjoyed making it for my family and now this year I am filling liquid creamer bottles with it, decorating them as snowmen, and passing them out for...

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 c instant cocoa (ovaltine or ghirardelli cocoa with chocolate are my favoites)
2 c instant non dairy creamer, plain (coffeemate not the cheap stuff because you want creamy not just "white")
1 c instant coffee or espresso powder
1 1/2 c granulated sugar
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and store in a well sealed container
  • 2. To make a cup, stir 3 heaping teaspoons into a cup of water. To be quite honest, I use more of the mix per cup than this because I fill my mug up and/or use a cappuccino size mug.
  • 3. This is great on road trips, camping trips, to give as gifts in pretty containers, or just to keep on hand at home all winter long.

1/4-1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup whipping cream

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality coffee beans: The quality of your coffee beans will greatly impact the flavor of your fireside coffee. Opt for specialty-grade, freshly roasted beans to ensure the best taste.
  • Use the right grind size: The grind size of your coffee is crucial for a well-balanced brew. For fireside coffee, a coarse grind is recommended as it allows for a slower extraction and prevents bitterness.
  • Heat your water to the correct temperature: The ideal water temperature for brewing fireside coffee is between 195°F (90°C) and 205°F (96°C). This temperature range helps extract the optimal flavors from the coffee grounds without causing bitterness.
  • Use a French press or cowboy coffee maker: These brewing methods are commonly used for fireside coffee due to their simplicity and portability. They allow for a full immersion of the coffee grounds in hot water, resulting in a rich and flavorful brew.
  • Experiment with different flavors: Fireside coffee is a versatile beverage that can be customized to your personal preferences. Consider adding spices like cinnamon, cardamom, or nutmeg to enhance the flavor profile.

Conclusion:

Fireside coffee is a delightful and aromatic beverage that can elevate your outdoor adventures. By following these tips and choosing high-quality ingredients, you can create a delicious and memorable coffee experience to enjoy around the campfire. Whether you prefer a classic black coffee or one infused with unique flavors, fireside coffee is sure to warm your body and soul.
