Tips:

  • Fresh is best: Use fresh blueberries and cranberries for the best flavor and texture. If you can't find fresh berries, frozen berries will also work, but they may not be as sweet or flavorful.
  • Choose the right oranges: Use navel oranges for a sweeter relish, or blood oranges for a more tart relish. If you use blood oranges, be sure to remove the white pith before juicing them.
  • Don't overcook the relish: The relish should be cooked just until the berries are softened and the sauce has thickened, about 10-15 minutes. Overcooking the relish will make it too tart and jelly-like.
  • Taste the relish before serving: Adjust the sweetness and tartness of the relish to your taste by adding more sugar or orange juice. You can also add a pinch of salt to balance the flavors.
  • Serve the relish chilled: The relish is best served chilled, so be sure to refrigerate it for at least an hour before serving.

Conclusion:

This festive fresh blueberry and cranberry relish is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any holiday gathering. The sweetness of the berries and the tartness of the oranges combine to create a flavorful relish that is sure to please everyone at the table. Serve it alongside your favorite holiday dishes, such as turkey, ham, or roasted chicken, or use it as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or yogurt. No matter how you choose to serve it, this relish is sure to be a hit!
