FAMILY GOULASH

Yield 6 bowls

Number Of Ingredients 13

1lb Hamburger
1 clove minced Garlic
1/2 chopped Onion
10 oz can Tomatoes with Chilies
14 oz can Stewed Tomatoes
1 can of Kidney, Red, or Pinto Beans
Celery
Carrots
1 can Beef Broth (2 cups)
1 cup Penne Pasta
1 tsp Cumin
1/4 tsp Pepper
1/2 tsp Salt

Steps:

  • Brown Hamburger with clove of Garlic and chopped Onion. Drain. Add rest of ingredients. Simmer until Macaroni is tender, about 15 minutes. Serve with Cornbread.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, brisket, or short ribs are all good options for goulash. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when braised in liquid.
  • Brown the beef before braising: Browning the beef adds flavor and color to the goulash.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Onions, carrots, celery, and potatoes are all classic goulash vegetables. You can also add other vegetables, such as green beans, zucchini, or mushrooms.
  • Use a good quality paprika: Paprika is the key spice in goulash. Choose a Hungarian paprika, which has a smoky, sweet flavor.
  • Simmer the goulash for at least an hour: This will allow the flavors to develop and the beef to become tender.
  • Serve the goulash with a dollop of sour cream: Sour cream adds a creamy, tangy flavor to the goulash.

Conclusion:

Goulash is a hearty, flavorful stew that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is also a relatively inexpensive dish to make, which makes it a great option for families on a budget. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make a delicious goulash that your family will love.
