FAJITA PITAS

Fajita Pitas image

I was late coming home one evening and forgot to pick up tortillas for the fajitas we planned for dinner. So we used pita bread that I had in the freezer instead. The warm chicken-filled pockets, garnished with a homemade sauce and other tasty toppings, are often requested when we're hungry for something in a hurry. -Diana Jones, Springtown, Texas

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your fajita pitas. Look for ripe bell peppers, juicy chicken or steak, and flavorful cheese.
  • Marinate your meat: Marinating the chicken or steak before cooking will help to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with olive oil, lime juice, garlic, and cumin, or you can get creative with your own favorite flavors.
  • Cook your meat over high heat: This will help to create a nice char on the meat and lock in the flavor.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: If you overcrowd the pan, the meat will not cook evenly. Cook the meat in batches if necessary.
  • Warm your pitas before serving: This will make them soft and pliable, and it will also help to melt the cheese.
  • Load up your pitas: Don't be afraid to load up your pitas with your favorite toppings. Some popular options include grilled bell peppers and onions, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and cheese.

Conclusion:

Fajita pitas are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. They are also a great way to use up leftover chicken or steak. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
