EASY HAM AND CHEESE STROMBOLI

Easy Ham and Cheese Stromboli image

I had a lot of leftover deli ham after making Monte Cristo sandwiches and wanted to whip up something quick and easy. This was the result. Good thing my husband wasn't home as my 16 year old son and his girlfriend devoured the whole thing! My son also came up with varieties that he will try. He thinks turkey with pesto would be good. I think you can sub most any cheese, meat and vegetable. I might do thinly sliced flank steak and blue cheese next time.

EASY PEASY STROMBOLI

Easy Peasy Stromboli image

If you want an quick, easy, hot, cheesy, yummy lunch or dinner? Try this! My family loves it!

Provided by Tammy T

Categories     Pizza

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 ready to bake pizza dough (refriderated - your favorite)
1/2 c pizza sauce, your favorite ( i used ragu brand )
8 slice thin, salami
10 slice pepperoni
1 1/2 c shredded mozzarella cheese
4-5 Tbsp zesty italian salad dressing
optional add in's: black olives, green bell peppers-sliced thin, tomatoes, banna peppers, etc

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400.
  • 2. Unroll pizza dough and spread it out a bit so it's not so thick and is a little wider but not too thin.
  • 3. Spread the pizza sauce on the dough leaving 2 inches open on the one side, lengthwise.
  • 4. Spread the mozzarella cheese all over and then the toppings over the cheese, spreading them in lines lengthwise from one end to the other. May have to overlap, that's fine. Then drizzle a tablespoon of the Italian dressing over the toppings.
  • 5. Roll the one side with the toppings over to ending with the side that has the 2 inches with no sauce.
  • 6. Lay, seam down, on a good sized baking sheet.
  • 7. Brush the Italian dressing on top of the dough and cut slits diagonally in four places throughout the dough to vent.
  • 8. Bake for 20 minutes keeping an eye on it so that it doesn't get to brown. Should be golden brown.
  • 9. Take out and let sit for a couple of minutes. Slice into serving size pieces to your liking. Be careful as it is hot and bubbly. Enjoy with a ceasar salad.

Tips:

  • Choose the right dough: You can use store-bought pizza dough, puff pastry, or even crescent roll dough. If you're using a store-bought dough, let it come to room temperature before using it.
  • Don't overstuff the stromboli: If you overstuff it, it will be difficult to roll up and seal. Aim for a filling that is about 1 inch thick.
  • Brush the stromboli with egg wash before baking: This will help it to brown and give it a shiny crust.
  • Bake the stromboli until it is golden brown: This will take about 20-25 minutes. If you're not sure if it's done, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the stromboli is done.
  • Let the stromboli cool slightly before slicing: This will help to prevent the filling from oozing out.

Conclusion:

Stromboli is a delicious and easy-to-make Italian dish that is perfect for any occasion. It can be served as an appetizer, main course, or even a snack. With its endless filling possibilities, there is sure to be a stromboli recipe that everyone will enjoy.
