EASY STOVE TOP STUFFING SAUTE

Easy Stove Top Stuffing Saute image

This is a wonderful side dish for chicken and turkey dinner we like to drizzle some gravy over the stuffing --- you can also make this using turkey flavor stuffing and use turkey broth or chicken broth. Feel free to add in any other cooked meat or veggies that you desire, I most always add in chopped jalapeno peppers as my family likes spicy! :)

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 large onions, coarsely chopped
2 -3 stalks celery, coarsely chopped
1 small green pepper, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon minced garlic (or to taste)
1 -2 cup canned mushroom slices, drained
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1 3/4 cups chicken broth (homemade or store bought)
1 1/2 cups canned corn niblets, drained (I just use one whole can)
2 (120 g) boxes stove top chicken flavor stuffing mix
black pepper
salt (optional)

Steps:

  • In an extra large fry pan or Dutch oven melt butter and sauté the onions, garlic, celery, and green pepper until soft (about 5-6 minutes).
  • Slowly add in the chicken broth, mushrooms (if using) and corn niblets; cover and simmer for about 5-6 minutes.
  • Add in black pepper to taste.
  • Remove from heat and add in the two boxes of chicken stuffing mix, and toss with a wooden spoon until the bread crumbs have absorbed the broth.
  • Cover with a lid and let stand for 10 minutes.

THANKSGIVING STUFFING (CHEAT! USING STOVE TOP)

Thanksgiving Stuffing (Cheat! Using Stove Top) image

Last year I used my method of making turkey/chicken stuffing and used the pre-made packaged mix. My family never knew the difference. Easy and quick with that homemade taste.

Time 15m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 medium onions, minced
2 -3 stalks celery, chopped fine
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning (I use Bell's)
2 cups turkey broth or 2 cups vegetable broth
hot water
2 (6 ounce) packages stove top-style seasoned stuffing mix

Steps:

  • Saute onions and celery in butter.
  • Sprinkle with poultry seasoning.
  • Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Toss this mixture into your favorite dry stuffing mix.
  • Heat broth and set aside.
  • Read directions on your favorite stuffing mix box.
  • Add enough hot water to the broth to make up the required liquid needed.
  • (Omit butter the recipe calls for as it was already used to saute vegetables.)
  • Pour over stuffing/vegetables mixture and mix well.
  • Stuff your chicken or turkey. For a side dish place stuffing in a baking dish; cover and bake for 15 to 25 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tips:

  • Use a large skillet or Dutch oven to cook the stuffing, so that there is plenty of room for the ingredients to brown evenly.
  • Don't be afraid to add your own favorite ingredients to the stuffing. Some popular additions include chopped celery, carrots, apples, or dried cranberries.
  • If you are using a store-bought bread cube mix, be sure to toast the cubes before adding them to the stuffing. This will help to give the stuffing a crispy texture.
  • Be careful not to overcook the stuffing. It should be cooked through, but still slightly moist.
  • Serve the stuffing immediately, or let it cool and then reheat it before serving.

Conclusion:

Stove top stuffing is a delicious and easy side dish that can be enjoyed with a variety of meals. It is a great way to use up leftover bread, and it can also be made ahead of time and reheated before serving. With so many different ways to make stove top stuffing, there is sure to be a recipe that everyone will enjoy.
