Tips:

  • Prep your vegetables: Dice or chop your vegetables into small, even pieces so they cook evenly.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you use, the more flavorful your chowder will be. Try using a mix of root vegetables, leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot: Cook your vegetables in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pot. Overcrowding can prevent the vegetables from cooking evenly and can make the chowder watery.
  • Use a good quality broth: The broth is the base of your chowder, so it's important to use a good quality broth. Look for a broth that is low in sodium and has a rich flavor.
  • Season to taste: Taste your chowder as you cook it and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may need to add more salt, pepper, or herbs.
  • Let the chowder simmer: Simmering allows the flavors to meld and develop. Simmer your chowder for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time.
  • Serve with a side of crusty bread or crackers: Chowder is the perfect comfort food on a cold day. Serve it with a side of crusty bread or crackers for dipping.
