Steps:

  • 1. Wash cabbage and chop into small pieces, then lay in bottom of casserole pan. I use an enamel pan and it comes out great.
  • 2. Next, over the Chopped cabbage layer, tear up uncooked ground beef (it will cook as the casserole cooks in the oven) and layer on top of cabbage.
  • 3. Sprinkle minute rice (uncooked) over ground beef.
  • 4. Add chopped onion over ground beef and rice.
  • 5. Add final layer of chopped cabbage. Salt and pepper to taste.

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb lean ground beef
1 medium onion, sliced
1 medium head cabbage, sliced
1 can(s) condensed tomato soup
1 can(s) diced tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 c sour cream

Steps:

  • 1. In a large pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion; drain fat.
  • 2. Stir in the sliced cabbage, tomato soup, tomatoes (with liquid), salt and pepper. Cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 3. Stir in sour cream just before serving.

Tips:

  • Use fresh cabbage: Fresh cabbage has a crisp texture and sweet flavor that will shine through in the casserole. If you're using store-bought shredded cabbage, be sure to rinse it well before using.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage: Overcooked cabbage will be mushy and unpleasant. Cook it just until it is tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: Different cheeses will give your casserole different flavors and textures. Try using a combination of cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses.
  • Add some extras: Feel free to add other ingredients to your casserole, such as cooked ground beef, sausage, or vegetables. You can also add a tablespoon of Dijon mustard or a splash of hot sauce for some extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately: Cabbage casserole is best served immediately, while the cheese is still melted and bubbly. However, it can also be made ahead of time and reheated later.

Conclusion:

Cabbage casserole is a delicious and easy side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's a great way to use up leftover cabbage, and it's also a budget-friendly meal. Plus, it's a good source of vitamins and minerals, making it a healthy choice for your family.
