cherries
sugar
vodka

small funnel

Steps:

  • Rinse the cherries and pick out any bruised, soft or damaged fruit.
  • Use a pair of kitchen sheers to trim the stems to about 1/2" long.
  • Pack the cherries into a jar, filling it tightly and to the top.
  • Use a funnel to fill the jar about 1/3 of the way with sugar.
  • Fill the jar to the top with vodka and seal the lid on tightly.
  • Shake and roll the jar in your hands until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Place the jar in a cool dark spot for at least two weeks or longer (My friend Nola goes a full six months). Shake or roll the jar every so often a few times if you're going with a shorter soak and at least once a month if you're going for longer.

DRUNKEN CHERRIES

Drunken cherries are an alcohol infused cherry dipped in chocolate! These are bite-size treats that are loaded with incredible flavor!

Provided by Kelsey Apley

Time 4h5m

Number Of Ingredients 5

24 maraschino cherries with stems
2 cups chocolate chips (milk, white, semi sweet, any kind)
1 cup bourbon (vodka, tequila, rum, etc. Your choice)
1 teaspoon shortening
sprinkles (optional)

Steps:

  • Start by removing cherries from the cherry juice. Put in a jar that has a lid.
  • Pour in your cup of alcohol, and seal the jar. Soak cherries for 4 hours to overnight. The longer the cherries soak in the alcohol the stronger it will become.
  • Remove cherries from the alcohol and place them on a towel to dry off. This step is needed so the chocolate can stick to the cherries.
  • Then in a bowl melt your chocolate and shortening. I did mine in the microwave.
  • Dip each cherry in chocolate and then set to dry on parchment paper. If you want add sprinkles!

DRUNKEN CHERRIES

This makes a wonderful gift, especially around the holidays with its vibrant color. This should be stored for 8 hours before eating (in order for the flavors to develop) and last up to 1 week. It is lovely served over vanilla ice cream or used as a topping for cheesecake (or any other dessert).

Time 10m

Yield 24 oz.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 (17 ounce) cans sweet pitted cherries, drained
1/2 cup vodka
1/4 cup blackberry liqueur or 1/4 cup cherry brandy
1 tablespoon coarsely grated orange peel
1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Steps:

  • In large bowl, combine all ingredients; stir until well mixed and sugar is dissolved.
  • Ladle mixture into one 24 oz. (1-1/2 pints) glass jar; store, tightly covered, at least 8 hours and up to 1 week.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, firm cherries for the best results. Overripe or bruised cherries will not hold their shape as well in the syrup.
  • Use a variety of liqueurs to create a unique flavor profile. Some popular options include brandy, bourbon, rum, and vodka. You can also use a combination of liqueurs.
  • Be patient when macerating the cherries. The longer the cherries macerate, the more flavor they will absorb from the liqueur.
  • Store the drunken cherries in a cool, dark place. They will keep for up to 2 months.
  • Serve the drunken cherries as a dessert, cocktail garnish, or on top of ice cream or yogurt.

Conclusion:

Drunken cherries are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed in many different ways. They are easy to make and can be stored for up to 2 months, making them a great option for holiday entertaining. So next time you have a party or gathering, be sure to make a batch of drunken cherries to impress your guests.
