Time 50m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups vegetable oil for frying
3 cups Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 egg
1 cup milk
4 dill pickles, quartered lengthwise

Steps:

  • Combine bread crumbs, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper in a bowl; set aside. Whisk egg and milk together in a separate bowl. Dip dill pickle spears into the egg mixture, then into the bread crumb mixture until well-coated. Dip the pickles in the egg and bread crumb mixtures a second time so each spear is double coated. Arrange pickles in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the freezer until the breading is set, about 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Fry the pickles in the preheated oil until light golden brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Tips:

- Choose the right pickles. Cornichons or dill pickles are the best choices for deep frying, as they have a sturdy texture that can withstand the heat. - Use a light batter. A heavy batter will make the pickles soggy. A simple batter made with flour, eggs, and milk is all you need. - Season the batter well. Add some salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the batter for extra flavor. - Fry the pickles in hot oil. The oil should be at least 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If the oil is not hot enough, the pickles will not cook evenly. - Fry the pickles in small batches. Do not overcrowd the pan, or the pickles will not cook evenly. - Drain the pickles on paper towels. This will help to remove excess oil. - Serve the pickles hot. Deep-fried pickles are best served hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Deep-fried pickles are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a crispy, flavorful treat that will be the hit of your next party or gathering. So next time you're looking for a new and exciting way to enjoy pickles, give deep-frying a try. You won't be disappointed!
