Date-Pecan Pie Bars image

I found this recipe many years ago in a magazine. The original called for walnuts, but I tweaked it to use our abundant Texas pecans. I make these for Christmas and other times throughout the year. -Lillian Greenslade, Fort Worth, Texas

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
  • If you don't have any heavy cream, you can substitute milk or evaporated milk.
  • To make the crust extra crispy, bake it for a few minutes before adding the filling.
  • Be sure to let the pie cool completely before serving, otherwise the filling will be too runny.
  • For a fun twist, try using different types of nuts, such as walnuts, almonds, or pistachios.
