CROCK POT MILLION DOLLAR MASHED POTATOES

Number Of Ingredients 6

5 pounds russet potatoes
2 sticks salted butter, cut into cubes
32 ounces chicken broth
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Peel and cut potatoes into 1-inch cubes. Place in bottom of a 6-qt crock pot.
  • Dot potatoes with 1 stick of cubed butter. Pour chicken broth on top of potatoes.
  • Cook on high for 4-5 hours. Ready when fork tender.
  • Drain excess broth from potatoes; place potatoes back in crock pot.
  • Add in remaining butter, cream cheese, milk and salt/pepper. Mash with potato masher (or hand mixer) until smooth. Add more milk if needed for consistency.
  • Keep potatoes in crock pot on warm until ready to serve.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of potatoes. Yukon Gold, Russet, and Red potatoes all have different textures and flavors, so combining them creates a more complex and delicious mashed potato dish.
  • Don't overcook the potatoes. Overcooked potatoes will become gluey and lose their flavor. Cook them until they are just tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Drain the potatoes well. Any excess water will make the mashed potatoes watery and bland. Drain the potatoes thoroughly before mashing them.
  • Use a potato ricer. A potato ricer is the best tool for making smooth and fluffy mashed potatoes. It breaks up the potatoes into small, even pieces that will absorb the butter and milk more easily.
  • Be careful not to over-mash the potatoes. Over-mashed potatoes will become gluey and lose their texture. Mash them just until they are smooth and creamy.
  • Add plenty of butter and milk. Butter and milk are essential for making creamy and flavorful mashed potatoes. Use at least 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of milk for every pound of potatoes.
  • Season the mashed potatoes to taste. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are classic seasonings for mashed potatoes. You can also add other herbs and spices, such as thyme, rosemary, or sage.
  • Serve the mashed potatoes immediately. Mashed potatoes are best served hot and fresh. If you need to make them ahead of time, you can reheat them in the oven or microwave.

Conclusion:

With these tips, you can make delicious and creamy Crock Pot Million Dollar Mashed Potatoes that will be the star of your next meal. This recipe is easy to follow and can be customized to your own taste. So next time you're looking for a side dish that will impress your family and friends, give this recipe a try.
