CROCK POT CUBED VENISON

Crock Pot Cubed Venison image

This recipe is from a "Calling All Cooks" local phone company cookbook. When I made it I was snowed in and all out of fresh veggies, so instead of the onion and bell pepper, I just added Mexican tomatoes for some flavor.

Time 4h30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound venison stew meat
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (16 ounce) package uncooked egg noodles

Steps:

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Toss the cubed venison with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook the venison in the hot oil until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Once browned, remove from the skillet and place into a slow cooker, leaving the remaining oil in the skillet.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low, and stir the flour into the remaining olive oil. Cook and stir until the flour has turned golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in the water and bring to a simmer, then pour into the slow cooker along with the cream of mushroom soup. Cover, and cook on Low for 4 hours, or until the venison is tender.
  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles, and cook until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes; drain. Spoon the Stroganoff over the egg noodles to serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of venison: For this recipe, a chuck roast or shoulder roast is ideal. These cuts are tough but will become tender and flavorful when cooked slowly in the crock pot.
  • Trim the venison: Before cooking, trim the venison of any excess fat or silver skin. This will help to reduce the gamey flavor.
  • Browning the venison: Browning the venison in a pan before adding it to the crock pot is an optional step, but it will add extra flavor to the dish.
  • Use a good quality red wine: The red wine in this recipe helps to tenderize the venison and add flavor. Choose a red wine that you enjoy drinking, as the flavor will come through in the dish.
  • Add vegetables for extra flavor: Vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onions can be added to the crock pot along with the venison. This will add extra flavor and nutrients to the dish.
  • Cook on low for best results: Cooking the venison on low for 8-10 hours will allow it to become fall-apart tender. If you are short on time, you can cook it on high for 4-6 hours, but the meat may not be as tender.
  • Serve with your favorite sides: This crock pot venison can be served with a variety of sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or rice.

Conclusion:

This crock pot venison recipe is an easy and delicious way to cook venison. The slow cooking process tenderizes the meat and allows the flavors to meld together. Serve this dish with your favorite sides for a hearty and satisfying meal.
