This is from the "Cranberry Festival Recipes" booklet I picked up at the cranberry festival in Bordentown NJ (where one of the Ocean Spray facilities is located) many years ago. It was submitted by a woman from Vincetown NJ and is one of my favorite apple butters. I usually use the cranapple juice.

Tips:

  • Prep your apples and cranberries: Before you start cooking, make sure to wash and dry your apples and cranberries. If you're using fresh cranberries, you may want to rinse them in a colander to remove any excess water.
  • Use a variety of apples: For the best flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Fuji.
  • Cook the apple butter until it's thick and spreadable: This can take several hours, so be patient. The apple butter is done when it has reached a thick, spreadable consistency and has turned a deep amber color.
  • Add spices and sugar to taste: Once the apple butter is cooked, you can add spices and sugar to taste. Some popular spices include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. You can also add a little bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
  • Canning the apple butter: If you want to store your apple butter for longer than a few weeks, you can can it. To do this, fill sterilized jars with the apple butter, leaving 1 inch of headspace at the top. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (adjust processing time for your altitude).

Conclusion:

Crock-Pot Cranberry Apple Butter is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used on toast, pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal. It can also be used as a marinade for chicken or pork, or as a glaze for roasted vegetables. With its sweet and tart flavor, Crock-Pot Cranberry Apple Butter is a surefire hit with family and friends.
