CRAB BROCCOLI CASSEROLE

Provided by Kitchen Crew

Categories     Seafood

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/4 c butter
1/4 c onion, chopped
1 can(s) crabmeat
1/4 tsp curry powder
1 c milk
1/2 c bread crumbs
1 broccoli, frozen or fresh bunch
1 c cheese, grated
1/4 c butter
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp lemon juice

Steps:

  • 1. Drain crab and set aside.
  • 2. Cook broccoli until almost tender and arrange in the bottom of greased 1 quart casserole; sprinkle with grated cheese.
  • 3. Melt 1/4 cup of butter and saute the onion; add flour, curry powder and salt.
  • 4. Gradually stir in milk; cook until thickened, then stir in lemon juice and add crab.
  • 5. Pour over broccoli and cheese in casserole.
  • 6. Mix 2 tablespoons of melted butter with bread crumbs and sprinkle over top.
  • 7. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
  • 8. NOTE: This is a good dish to use imitation crabmeat, if you would prefer. Also does nicely in individual casseroles.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh crab meat: Fresh crab meat has a sweet and delicate flavor, making it the best choice for this casserole. Avoid using canned or frozen crab meat, as it can be tough and watery.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The cheese is a key ingredient in this casserole, so it's important to use a good quality cheese that melts well. Cheddar, Parmesan, and Gruyère are all good choices.
  • Don't overcook the broccoli: Broccoli should be cooked until it is tender but still has a slight crunch. Overcooked broccoli will become mushy and lose its flavor.
  • Make sure the casserole is hot and bubbly before serving: This casserole is best served hot and bubbly. If it's not hot enough, the cheese won't be melted and the casserole will be less flavorful.

Conclusion:

Crab and broccoli casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's a great way to use up leftover crab meat, and it's also a great dish to serve at a party or potluck. With its creamy sauce, tender broccoli, and flavorful crab meat, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
