COUNTRY STYLE GREEN BEANS WITH RED POTATOES

Country Style Green Beans with Red Potatoes image

These green beans and potatoes are a spectacular dish. I have been making them for years in large quantities for special events at my church. The smoked turkey tails make an excellent broth that is seasoned beyond words. Let the meat cook until it falls off the bone for the ultimate flavor, at least 2 hours.

COUNTRY RANCH GREEN BEANS 'N POTATOES WITH BACON RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Country Ranch Green Beans 'n Potatoes with Bacon Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by carvalhohm

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 stick butter (4 Tbl.)
1 small sweet onion, cut into thin wedges
1 medium regular red potato, unpeeled, 1/2-3/4″ dice
1/4 tsp. coarse ground black pepper
3 strips crisp-cooked bacon, thinly sliced
1/2 tsp. finely minced garlic
1 1/2 tsp. dry Hidden Valley Ranch Salad Dressing or Dips Mix (either work)
1 (14.5 oz.) can green beans, drained

Steps:

  • In medium saucepan or small frying pan, melt butter. Add onion, potato and pepper. Sauté over medium heat until potatoes are fork tender. (I like to cover with a lid and stir every so often.) Add bacon, garlic, and Ranch Mix. Stir in well. Fold in green beans and heat through, simmering, stirring gently and occasionally so that you don't wreck them. Add pepper to taste. Add salt only if desired. *Ranch Mixes are salty.

Tips:

  • Use fresh green beans: Fresh green beans have a crisp texture and vibrant flavor that make them perfect for this dish. If you can't find fresh green beans, you can use frozen green beans, but be sure to thaw them completely before cooking.
  • Don't overcook the green beans: Green beans should be cooked until they are tender-crisp. Overcooked green beans will be mushy and bland.
  • Use a good quality ranch dressing: The ranch dressing is what really makes this dish special. Be sure to use a dressing that you enjoy the taste of.
  • Add some bacon: Bacon adds a delicious smoky flavor to this dish. If you don't have bacon on hand, you can use crumbled sausage or ham.
  • Serve immediately: This dish is best served immediately after it is made. The green beans will start to lose their crispness if they sit for too long.

Conclusion:

Country Ranch Green Beans and Potatoes is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is made with fresh green beans, potatoes, bacon, and a creamy ranch dressing. This dish is sure to please everyone at your table.
