Provided by redplaid huf

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 4h5m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lb lean ground beef
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 -2 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 (14 ounce) can black beans or 1 (14 ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 (14 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 sweet onion, chopped (optional)
1/4 cup chile, diced (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown meat, add garlic and onion. Add chili powder and cumin. Heat through.
  • In crock pot mix tomatoes, beans, chilies and paste. Add meat mixture.
  • Crock on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 7-8 hours.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: Use fresh, ripe vegetables and flavorful spices to create a delicious chili. Look for high-quality chili powder and cumin, as these spices are essential to the flavor of the dish.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the meat before adding it to the crock pot helps to develop its flavor and create a richer chili. Use a large skillet over medium-high heat to brown the meat in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Use a variety of beans: Different types of beans add different flavors and textures to chili. Try using a combination of kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans. You can also add hominy or corn for a slightly sweet flavor.
  • Add vegetables: Vegetables such as onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes add flavor and nutrition to chili. Chop the vegetables into small pieces so that they cook evenly.
  • Season the chili: Chili should be flavorful but not too spicy. Start with a moderate amount of chili powder and cumin, and then add more to taste. You can also add other spices such as garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Let the chili simmer: The longer the chili simmers, the more flavorful it will be. Allow the chili to simmer for at least 4 hours, or up to 8 hours on low heat. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop.

Conclusion:

Cooking chili in a crock pot is a great way to make a delicious, hearty meal with minimal effort. By following these tips, you can create a flavorful chili that your family and friends will love. Serve the chili with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped cilantro. Enjoy!
