Provided by Mackenzie Ryan

Categories     Main Course     Pork

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pound ham (bone-in recommended (see tips for choosing the right size for you))
1/4 cup Coca Cola (plus more as needed*)
1/2 teaspoon smooth dijon mustard
1 Tablespoon packed brown sugar

Steps:

  • Put the number of pounds of your ham into the portion scaler at the top of this recipe card to get the right glaze amounts.
  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Place a ham largest cut side down inside of a roasting pan with high sides.
  • In a bowl stir together the dijon, brown sugar, and coke. Pour it over the ham and rub the sugar into the ham as best as possible.

Time 2h50m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (8 pound) boneless ham
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle cola-flavored carbonated beverage
1 cup grape juice
1 (20 ounce) can sliced pineapple, drained with juice reserved

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  • Use a knife to score a diagonal pattern onto the ham with the lines about 1 inch apart. Place the ham in a large roasting pan and pat brown sugar over the entire surface. Some will fall into the pan, that's okay.
  • Bake the ham in the preheated oven until the sugar is melting off of it, about 30 minutes. Remove the ham from the oven and pour the cola, grape juice and juice from the pineapple into the pan. Baste the ham with the mixture and return it to the oven.
  • Continue to bake in the preheated oven, basting every 20 minutes, for about 2 hours. Cut the pineapple rings in half. Remove the ham from the oven and float the pineapple rings in the drippings. Allow the ham to rest for about 10 minutes, then slice and serve with the pineapple and sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose a ham that is fully cooked and spiral-cut. This will save you time and effort, and ensure that the ham is cooked evenly.
  • Make sure to score the ham before baking. This will help the cola glaze penetrate the meat and give it more flavor.
  • Use a good quality cola. A dark cola, such as Coca-Cola or Pepsi, will give the ham a richer flavor than a light cola.
  • Baste the ham frequently while it is baking. This will help keep it moist and prevent it from drying out.
  • Let the ham rest for at least 15 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it more tender and flavorful.

Conclusion:

Cola-basted ham is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. Whether you are hosting a holiday dinner or just want to enjoy a special meal with your family, this ham is sure to be a hit. Serve it with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread, and enjoy!
