BAKED COKE- COLA HAM

Baked Coke- Cola Ham image

This was another one of my Nannie's recipes. It was not a holiday dinner without this ham!! My family are not big fans of turkey so this was a must!

Provided by Wanda Vance

Categories     Pork

Time 3h45m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 boneless or semi boneless ham
1/2 of a two liter bottle of coke-cola
1 1/2 c brown sugar, light
3 Tbsp mustard

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl mix together the cola, brown sugar and mustard
  • 2. Place ham in a deep roasting pan- If I am making this to take somewhere I use an aluminum foil pan.
  • 3. Pierce ham with a knife several times. Pour the coke mixture over the ham. Cover with foil - Bake at 350 degrees for 3- 3 1/2 hours!
  • 4. I pour the" Ham Juice " in a canning jar and take it with me - then pour it back over the ham to keep moist!

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Select a bone-in ham for a more flavorful and juicy result.
  • Preheat the oven properly: Ensure the oven is fully preheated before placing the ham inside.
  • Score the ham: Make shallow cuts into the ham's surface to allow the cola glaze to penetrate better.
  • Use a quality cola: Choose a dark, rich cola for a bolder flavor.
  • Baste the ham regularly: Basting the ham throughout the cooking process helps keep it moist and flavorful.
  • Don't overcook the ham: Overcooking can make the ham dry and tough. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
  • Let the ham rest before carving: Allow the ham to rest for about 15 minutes before carving. This helps the juices redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful ham.

Conclusion:

Cola-baked ham is an easy and delicious dish that is perfect for any occasion. The cola glaze adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the ham, while the spices and herbs provide a savory balance. This recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
