Cocktail Grilled Cheese Sandwich Appetizers image

These are the cutest little bites and you can make them according to your personal tastes. A friend toted these to our 4th of July party and they were gone within minutes! Recipe from Land O Lakes.

Provided by JamesDeansGirl

Categories     Cheese

Time 35m

Yield 42 mini sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (1 lb) package sliced sourdough cocktail bread or 1 (1 lb) package rye bread
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup orange marmalade or 1/4 cup raspberry preserves
6 ounces monterey jack cheese or 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400*F.
  • Lightly spread 1 side of each piece of bread with about 1/4 teaspoons butter.
  • Place half the bread slices onto foil-lined cookie sheets, buttered side down.
  • Top each with a dab of mustard and 1 tablespoons cheese; top with another bread slice, buttered side up.
  • Bake the sandwiches, turning once, for 10-13 minutes, or until golden and the cheese is melted.
  • Cut each sandwich in half diagonally and serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality bread that will hold up to the grilling process. A sturdy sourdough or a thick-sliced brioche would be a good choice.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when grilling the sandwiches. Give them plenty of room to cook evenly.
  • If you're using a nonstick pan, you may not need to add any butter or oil. If you're using a regular pan, you'll want to grease it lightly to prevent the sandwiches from sticking.
  • Cook the sandwiches over medium heat until they're golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
  • To make the cocktail sauce, simply combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended.
  • Serve the grilled cheese sandwiches immediately with the cocktail sauce for dipping.

Conclusion:

Cocktail grilled cheese sandwiches are a delicious and easy appetizer that is perfect for any party or gathering. They're quick to make and can be tailored to your own personal taste. With a variety of different cheeses, meats, and spreads to choose from, the possibilities are endless. So next time you're looking for a fun and easy appetizer, give cocktail grilled cheese sandwiches a try. Your guests will love them!
