SWEET LOKSHEN KUGEL

Sweet Lokshen Kugel image

Steffi has been a friend of our family for over 40 years, and this kugel recipe has been in her family as long as she can remember. Ever since I was a child, we would have this amazing noodle kugel on the Jewish high holidays or at random Sunday brunches. People love this kugel so much that she was encouraged to enter it in the 2012 New York State Fair and it won the Blue Ribbon in the Favorite Ethnic Dish category! Leftovers can be frozen.

Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect kugel texture, use a combination of soft and hard noodles. Soft noodles, like egg noodles, provide a tender base, while hard noodles, like penne or ziti, add a chewy bite.
  • Soak the noodles in cold water for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will help prevent them from sticking together and ensure even cooking.
  • Don't overcook the noodles. They should be cooked al dente, with a slight bite to them.
  • Use a large skillet or Dutch oven to cook the noodles. This will give them plenty of room to move around and prevent them from clumping together.
  • Add your desired mix-ins to the kugel before baking. This can include vegetables, cheese, or meat.
  • Bake the kugel in a preheated oven until it is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let the kugel cool slightly before serving. This will help it hold its shape and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Lukshen noodle kugel is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its combination of soft and chewy noodles, flavorful fillings, and golden brown crust, lukshen noodle kugel is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
