This is a Heirloom recipe handed down from my husbands Mother, Janice Arnold. Serve warm everyone loves it. Never have any left overs.

Number Of Ingredients 11

3/4 c sugar
1/4 c shortening
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 c milk
1 c flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp cinnamon
3 Tbsp powder sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Gradually add sugar to shortening, creaming until fluffy. Add egg, beat well. Add vanilla and milk. Sift together and add flour, baking powder and salt. Beat until smooth.
  • 2. Bake in a 9 inch round layer pan or 8 inch square pan at 375 degrees for 20-25 min.
  • 3. Remove from oven. At once spread with butter, than sprinkle with cinnamon and powder sugar over cake. Serve warm.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup shortening
¾ cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
¾ cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla and milk. Beat in the flour mixture, just until incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pan.
