Number Of Ingredients 10

2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
4 tablespoons brown sugar, divided
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
2-3/4 to 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
TOPPING:
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add 3 tablespoons brown sugar, cinnamon and salt; mix well. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough., Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a bowl coated with cooking spray, turning once to coat the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour., Punch dough down. Shape into 12 balls. Push thumb through each center to form a 1-1/2-in. hole. Stretch and shape dough to form an even ring. Place on a floured surface. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes., Fill a Dutch oven two-thirds full with water and remaining brown sugar; bring to a boil. Drop bagels, 2 at a time, into boiling water. Cook for 45 seconds; turn and cook 45 seconds longer. Remove with a slotted spoon; drain well on paper towels., In a small bowl, mix topping ingredients; sprinkle over bagels. Place 2 in. apart on baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 15-20 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.

We eat them instead of popcorn while watching a movie, or serve them at parties and potlucks.. always a big hit! *** You can use any kind of bagel you like... in the photos you can see I used sesseme...

5 large bagels
1/2 c cooking oil or olive oil
1/2 c butter or margarine
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder (or to taste)
1/2 tsp sea salt (or to taste)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 430 degrees.
  • 2. Cut bagels in half crosswise. Cut very thin slices in each half to form chips.
  • 3. In a large skillet (or a roast pan), put in the oil, butter garlic powder and salt. Stir while heating to melt the butter.
  • 4. Add the sliced bagel chips to the pan. Use a spatula to turn or flip them over and over in the oil/butter mixture to coat them well.
  • 5. Quickly place the bagel chips on baking sheets. Place in oven and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • 6. Remove from oven, turn the chips over and drain any oil that may be in the pan. Return to oven for an additional 3-6 minutes. *** (be care not to burn).
  • 7. Remove from oven. Place on paper towel lined dish (tray, bowl or pan), to cool completely before putting in zipper bags to store.
  • 8. Eat right away.. or set aside for a party! We eat these as is... but they are good with dips or plain cream cheese. *** WARNING! These are so good.... that you can't eat just a few.....

2 2oz. frozen unsplit plain bagels thawed
1 Tbs. reduced calorie stick margerine
butter flavored vegetable cooking spray
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat toaster or conventional oven to 350 cut each bagel horizontally into 4 slices place margarine in microwave safe bowl and microwave 15 seconds lightly coat slices with spray brush with margarine arrange in single layer on pan or sheet combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle bake at 350 for 12 minutes or until crisp cool completely on wire rack store air tight can sub cinnamon raisin bagels if desired
