Time 1h15m

Yield 4 cups of popcorn

Number Of Ingredients 0

Steps:

  • Microwave 1 cup white chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon shortening in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted, 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat in a separate bowl with 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon shortening. Spread 6 cups popcorn on a baking sheet and drizzle with both chocolate mixtures. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup roughly chopped peppermint candies and a pinch of kosher salt. Let harden, about 1 hour, then break into pieces.

Tips for Making Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn

  • Use fresh popcorn kernels. Stale kernels will not pop as well and will result in a less flavorful popcorn.
  • Heat the oil over medium-high heat. This will help to prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Add the popcorn kernels to the oil and cover the pot. Shake the pot occasionally to prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Remove the pot from the heat when the popping slows down. Pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  • Drizzle the melted chocolate over the popcorn and toss to coat.
  • Sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the popcorn and toss to coat.
  • Serve the popcorn immediately or store it in an airtight container for later.
