Yield Makes 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup pear nectar
1 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup sugar
4 slightly under-ripe pears, peeled, halved, cored
4 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, chopped
Vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • Stir pear nectar, white wine and sugar in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves and syrup comes to boil. Add pears to syrup in saucepan. Cover pan, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until pears are tender, about 8 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer pears to plate. Increase heat to medium-high and boil poaching liquid until reduced to 3/4 cup, about 8 minutes. Remove pan from heat. Add chocolate; whisk until chocolate melts and sauce is smooth.
  • Place 1 warm pear half, cut side up, on each plate. Top with vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate sauce. Or cover pears and chocolate sauce separately and refrigerate up to 2 days; then serve pears cold with ice cream and sauce, rewarming sauce, if desired.

Tips:

  • Use ripe pears: The riper the pears, the sweeter and more flavorful they will be in your pouches.
  • Peel and core the pears carefully: You want to remove the skin and core without bruising the flesh of the pears.
  • Cut the pears into even-sized pieces: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot: This will help to prevent the pears from sticking and burning.
  • Cook the pears over medium heat: This will help to prevent them from overcooking and becoming mushy.
  • Add the chocolate chips at the end of the cooking time: This will help to prevent them from melting completely and losing their shape.
  • Let the pouches cool slightly before serving: This will help to prevent the chocolate from melting all over your hands.

Conclusion:

Chocolate pear pouches are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for a quick snack or a special dessert. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious treat that is sure to please everyone.
