Categories     Pork     Vegetable     Bake     Quick & Easy

Yield makes4-6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 pound ham cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1/2 ponnd russet potatoes, with their skin, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1/2 pound fresh green beans cut into 1 inch pieces
3 tablespooons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 small onion, finely minced
4 ounces plus 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare potatoes and place in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam while preparing green beans. Add green beans to potatoes and steam about 5 minutes more. Just long enough that potatoes can be pierced easily with a fork. While veggies are steaming, prepare cheese sauce. Melt butter in a medium sauce pan. Add onion and saute over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, until translucent. Add flour, and stir until flour is incorporated. Cook 1-2 minutes to get rid of raw flour taste. Add milk and stir constantly until mixture has thickened--about 5 minutes. Add grated cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Pour sauce over ham mixture and top with remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered until heated through, 10-15 minutes. Place under broiler for 3-4 minutes to brown cheese, if desired.

Tips

  • Prep your potatoes properly: use a mandoline slicer to get consistently thin potato slices for even cooking.
  • Use good quality ham: it makes a big difference in the overall flavor of the dish.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish: give the potatoes enough space to cook evenly.
  • Season the potatoes well: don't be afraid to add salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Use a flavorful cheese: a sharp cheddar or Gruyère will give the dish a nice cheesy flavor.
  • Bake until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly: this usually takes about 30-40 minutes.
  • Serve the dish hot and garnish with fresh parsley: this will add a pop of color and freshness.
  • Conclusion

This Cheesy Ham and Potato Bake is a hearty and comforting dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, and it's always a hit with family and friends. So next time you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed.
