With a satisfying chew and complex flavors, this is going to be a big hit with anyone. Best when served hot, but also a yummy lunchbox choice because melting the cheese on the bread keeps it from getting soggy. If you like, add potato chips and a dill pickle on the side.

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
4 croissants
6 ounces Brie cheese, cut into 1/2-inch slices, at room temperature
2 cups arugula
1 cup (about 4 ounces) jarred roasted red bell peppers, thinly sliced

CHEESE STEAK SANDWICHES RECIPE - (3.8/5)

Cheese Steak Sandwiches Recipe - (3.8/5) image

Provided by msippigrl

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 green bell pepper, cut into 1" strips (1/3 cup)
1 small onion, roughly chopped (1/3 cup)
1/2 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
4 - 6 Steak-Umm frozen sandwich steaks (I used 6)
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 - 3 tablespoons salted butter or margarine
4 slices Provolone cheese (can use shredded)
2 hoagie or French rolls (Pepperidge Farm brand shown)

Steps:

  • Chop all the veggies; set aside. Lay out 2 sheets of aluminum foil on counter. Slice hoagie rolls if needed (mine were already sliced); set aside. Preheat oven to 300 F. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a medium non-stick skillet on medium-high heat. Add frozen Steak-umms; add a little salt and pepper and brown meat on both sides. Remove to a bowl and keep warm. In same skillet, heat a little more butter (if needed); add the mushrooms with a little salt and pepper and cook for a couple of minutes, until soft and lightly browned. Remove to a bowl. To the same skillet over medium/medium-high heat, melt another pat of butter (if needed); add the onions and bell peppers (and a little salt and pepper) and saute until crisp tender and lightly browned. Remove from skillet. Cut or tear 1 slice of cheese to fit on the bottom (cut side) of a hoagie roll. Top with half the cooked meat; then with half the veggies. Cut or tear another slice of cheese and place on top of veggies. Roll up tightly in the foil. Repeat steps for the remaining hoagie. Place hoagies directly on the middle oven rack and heat for 15 minutes. Unwrap and serve immediately (in the foil) with a side of potato chips or French fries.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread: A good quality hoagie roll or sub roll is essential for a great cheese steak sandwich. Look for a roll that is soft and has a slightly chewy texture. You can also use a French roll or even a baguette, but these will give you a different sandwich.
  • Use thinly sliced steak: The steak should be thinly sliced so that it cooks quickly and evenly. You can use any type of steak you like, but rib eye, flank steak, or top sirloin are all good choices.
  • Season the steak well: Be generous with the salt and pepper when you season the steak. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Cook the steak over high heat: The steak should be cooked over high heat so that it gets a nice sear. This will help to keep the steak juicy and flavorful.
  • Add the cheese: Once the steak is cooked, add the cheese. You can use any type of cheese you like, but provolone, American, or Cheez Whiz are all popular choices.
  • Top with your favorite toppings: Once the cheese is melted, top the sandwich with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

The cheese steak sandwich is a classic American sandwich that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a simple sandwich to make, but there are a few tips that you can follow to make sure that your sandwich is perfect. With the right ingredients and a little bit of care, you can make a cheese steak sandwich that is sure to impress your friends and family.
