Delicious, very modifiable chowder. Serve this with a salad and rolls or beer bread. Yum! Consider this a basic recipe that can be modified according to specific tastes and needs. Carrots and celery can be added when cooking the potatoes if desired. Bacon would be delicious in this as well.

  • Choose high-quality ingredients. Fresh vegetables, flavorful ham, and sharp cheddar cheese will make all the difference in the taste of your chowder.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot. If you add too many ingredients at once, the chowder will be watery and bland. Add the ingredients in stages, and cook them until they are tender before adding the next batch.
  • Simmer the chowder for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Season the chowder to taste. Add salt, pepper, and other seasonings as desired.
  • Serve the chowder hot, with crusty bread or crackers. You can also garnish it with fresh parsley or chives.
