CAN'T-MISS RICE

Can't-Miss Rice image

Baking rice in the oven offers an easy way to control time and temperature and frees up the burner on the stove. Shallots or a little onion can be sautéed in the butter before adding the rice, and chicken stock or other liquid can be substituted instead of the water for a full pilaf experience.

Tips:

  • Choose the right rice: Long-grain rice, such as basmati or jasmine rice, is best for fluffy rice. Short-grain rice, such as sushi rice, is stickier and better for dishes like risotto or paella.
  • Rinse the rice before cooking: This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from clumping together.
  • Use the correct water-to-rice ratio: This will vary depending on the type of rice you are using. Generally, a good starting point is 1 cup of rice to 1 1/2 cups of water.
  • Bring the water to a boil before adding the rice: This helps to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low: This will help the rice to cook evenly.
  • Do not stir the rice while it is cooking: This can break up the grains and make the rice mushy.
  • Let the rice rest for 5 minutes before serving: This allows the rice to absorb all of the water and become fluffy.

Conclusion:

With these tips in mind, you can cook perfect rice every time. Whether you are making a simple side dish or a complex pilaf, these tips will help you achieve the best results. So next time you are cooking rice, take a few minutes to follow these tips and you will be rewarded with delicious, fluffy rice.
