BONNIE'S DEEP FRIED CANDY BARS

BONNIE'S DEEP FRIED CANDY BARS image

This unusual recipe came from the internet by a cook named Elizabeth Deep-fried candy bars are crisp on the outside, and filled with liquified chocolate and caramel on the inside. Decadent and outrageous! Difinitely not health food, but once a year is okay!

to make deep-fried candy bars, you will need:
up to 8 full-size candy bars: snickers, milky way, etc.
2 quarts of vegetable oil
1.5 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
2 tbsp white vinegar
you will also need a candy/deep fry thermometer

Steps:

  • 1. Freeze Candy Bars Before you fry the candy bars you want them really cold, so unwrap them and place them on a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 3 hours.
  • 2. Prepare the Oil for Frying When you're ready to fry, get the oil ready. Pour it into a heavy-duty pot over medium-high heat and insert your candy thermometer. You want the oil to come to 375 degrees, which takes a while. Keep one eye on the oil while you get the rest of the ingredients ready.
  • 3. Mix Ingredients for Batter Place ½ cup of the flour on a plate or in a pie tin, and set it aside. Place the remaining cup of flour in a medium bowl, and stir in the baking soda and salt. Combine the milk, vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and mix it together. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk them until it's really smooth and there aren't any lumps.
  • 4. Dip Candy Bars Once the oil is at 375 degrees, it's time to start dipping. If you have a huge pan you can probably do several at once, but it's easiest to just fry one at a time.
  • 5. Frying the Candy Bars Roll a candy bar in the flour then dip it in the batter, making sure that it's completely covered. Carefully lower it into the hot oil--you don't want to get too close and burn your fingers, but be carefully not to throw it in and cause oil to splatter. Use a slotted spoon to push down on the candy bar and keep it submerged in the oil so it cooks evenly. Once it's a beautiful, golden brown color, remove the candy bar from the oil and place it on a plate covered with paper towel to soak up the excess grease. Repeat the battering and frying process with the remaining candy bars.
  • 6. Serving Deep-Fried Candy Bars After your candy bars are fried, let them cool slightly, then dust them lightly with powdered sugar and serve while still slightly warm. The outside is crisp but the insides liquefy and become this awesome gooey, chocolatey, caramel heaven. They are outrageous! If you get these at a food stand on a pier, they'll typically offer a choice of toppings such as chocolate syrup, confectioner's sugar, cinnamon, whipped cream, etc. Personally, I don't think they need anything else, but if you're feeling dangerous, go for it! Enjoy!

8-12 cups veg. oil or peanut oil (quanity depends on the size of pan you are frying in.)

1 tsp baking pdr
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
2 Tbs vinegar
1 Tbs veg. oil

  • 3. Prepare BATTER while oil is heating. Place 1/2 cup flour in shallow dish or pie tin, and set aside.
  • 4. Place remaining 1 cup flour in small bowl, Stir in Baking pdr, and salt. In a Mixing cup, stir milk, vinegar, & oil. Whisk the wet to the dry ingredients. whisk till almost no lumps.
  • 5. Remove candy bars from freezer few at a time. As not to thaw them out. Dredge candy bar in flour, covering completely. Dip completely into batter, using fork to completely cover with the batter, or slotted spoon. Quickly place into hot oil. Monitor as it will cook quickly. Keep submerged under the oil, and turn to fry to golden brown on all sides. Once it reaches golden brown, Remove from Oil with a slotted spoon. Place on paper lined plate, Cool slightly and sprinkle with Powdered Sugar.
  • 6. INDULGENCES: For Fancy indulgences, serve with side of warm Hot fudge sauce, Caramel sauce, Mint chicolate sauce, drizzled over them, or even a Raspberry sauce or Just plain whipped Cream with a dusting of Pdr Sgr or Cocoa. . . . ENJOY!
  • 7. NOTE: to save time, You can purchase a "Tempura batter Mix", in place of the Home made batter. But be sure you dredge your candy bars in flour.

Tips:

  • Choose the right candy bars. Not all candy bars are created equal. Some, like Snickers and Milky Way, hold their shape better than others, like Kit Kats and Butterfingers.
  • Freeze the candy bars before frying. This will help them keep their shape and prevent them from melting too quickly.
  • Use a deep fryer or a large saucepan with high sides. You'll need enough oil to completely submerge the candy bars.
  • Heat the oil to the correct temperature. The ideal temperature for frying candy bars is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If the oil is too hot, the candy bars will burn. If the oil is too cold, they won't cook evenly.
  • Fry the candy bars in batches. Don't overcrowd the fryer or saucepan. This will cause the oil temperature to drop and the candy bars won't cook evenly.
  • Fry the candy bars for a few minutes, or until they're golden brown. Be careful not to overcook them, or they'll become tough and chewy.
  • Drain the candy bars on paper towels. This will help remove excess oil.
  • Serve the candy bars immediately. They're best enjoyed warm and gooey.

Deep-fried candy bars are a delicious and decadent treat that is perfect for parties and special occasions. By following these tips, you can make sure your deep-fried candy bars are cooked to perfection. So what are you waiting for? Give this recipe a try today!
