Time 1h

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons dry onion soup mix
1 1/2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
2 1/2 lbs fish fillets (fresh or frozen thawed)
1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine, melted
1/3 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425. Spray w 13x9x2 inches baking dishes.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine sour cream and soup mix. Place bread crumbs in another shallow bowl (I use a pie pan). Cut fish into serving size pieces; coat with the sour cream mixture, then roll in the crumbs.
  • Place in two greased 13x9x2 inch baking dishes. Drizzle with the butter. Bake, uncovered, at 425 for 12 minutes. Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese; bake 2-6 minutes longer or until fish flakes easily with a fork.

Tips:

  • Choose the right fish: For this recipe, firm-fleshed fish like cod, salmon, or tilapia are best. They can withstand the baking process without falling apart.
  • Prepare your fish: Before baking, pat the fish dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help the fish cook evenly and prevent it from steaming.
  • Season your fish: Don't be afraid to season your fish liberally. Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika are all great options. You can also add your favorite herbs and spices.
  • Use a flavorful marinade: Marinating your fish before baking is a great way to add extra flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with olive oil, lemon juice, and herbs, or you can get creative and try something different.
  • Bake your fish at the right temperature: The ideal temperature for baking fish is 400°F (200°C). This will cook the fish through without overcooking it.
  • Don't overcook your fish: Fish cooks quickly, so it's important to keep an eye on it while it's baking. The best way to tell if your fish is done is to insert a fork into the thickest part of the fish. If the fish flakes easily, it's done.

Conclusion:

Baked fish is a healthy and delicious meal that can be easily prepared in a busy weeknight. By following these tips, you can ensure that your baked fish turns out perfect every time.
