Time 15m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 medium tomatoes, deseeded and diced (tomatoes should be firm)
8 fresh basil leaves, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
8 -12 slices French bread, cut 1/2 inch thick
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Mix chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic and oil. Allow to marinate for 30 minutes in refrigerator.
  • When ready to serve, grill or toast bread to light brown consistency and top with tomato mixture.

Tips:

  • Use ripe, flavorful tomatoes: The quality of your tomatoes will make a big difference in the flavor of your bruschetta. Choose ripe, juicy tomatoes that are in season and have a deep red color.
  • Dice the tomatoes finely: You want the tomatoes to be small enough that they can be easily spread on the bread, but not so small that they turn into mush.
  • Use good-quality bread: The bread is the other important component of bruschetta, so don't skimp on it. Use a sturdy bread that can hold up to the toppings, such as a baguette or a ciabatta roll.
  • Toast the bread: Toasting the bread will help it to absorb the olive oil and prevent it from getting soggy.
  • Drizzle the bread with olive oil: Olive oil is a classic ingredient in bruschetta and it helps to add flavor and richness. Use a good-quality extra virgin olive oil.
  • Add your toppings: The toppings for bruschetta can be varied, but some classic options include chopped tomatoes, basil, garlic, and Parmesan cheese. You can also add other ingredients, such as grilled vegetables, cured meats, or seafood.

Conclusion:

Bruschetta is a simple but delicious dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or a light meal. It's perfect for summer gatherings, as it's made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. With its vibrant colors and flavors, bruschetta is sure to impress your guests.
