Time 1h5m

Yield 2 1/2 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (20 ounce) package fudge brownie mix
3/4 cup ground almonds
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
3 egg whites
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)
3 ounces white baking chocolate (or dark chocolate) (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix, ground almonds, flour and baking powder. In a small bowl, whisk egg, egg whites and extract. Add to brownie mixture; stir until combined.
  • Divide dough into thirds. On a greased baking sheet, shape each portion into a 7 inch. x 3-1/2 inch rectangle.
  • Bake at 350° for 24 minutes. Remove from the oven; cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  • Move to a cutting board and cut diagonally with a serrated knife into 3/4 inch slices. Place cut side down on greased baking sheets. Bake 12-14 minutes longer or until firm.
  • Cool on wire racks. If desired, sprinkle with sliced almonds and drizzle with white or dark chocolate. Let stand until chocolate is completely set. Store in an airtight container.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality chocolate. The quality of the chocolate you use will greatly impact the flavor of your biscotti. Look for a chocolate that is at least 60% cacao.
  • Use unsalted butter. Salted butter can make your biscotti too salty. If you only have salted butter on hand, be sure to omit the additional salt called for in the recipe.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing the dough will make your biscotti tough. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking. Chilling the dough will help it to hold its shape while baking. This will also result in a crispier biscotti.
  • Bake the biscotti until they are golden brown. The biscotti should be baked until they are golden brown on the outside and firm to the touch. This will ensure that they are crispy and flavorful.
  • Slice the biscotti while they are still warm. Once the biscotti have cooled slightly, slice them into thin pieces. This will make them easier to eat and will also help to prevent them from crumbling.

Conclusion:

These brownie alpine biscotti are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. They are perfect for snacking on or serving with coffee or tea. With their rich chocolate flavor and crispy texture, these biscotti are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
