Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (24-inch by 4-inch) loaf of soft French bread
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 tablespoons (½ stick) salted butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ - 2 cups marinara or pizza sauce (or more or less), to taste
12 ounces (about 3 cups) shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Optional: 1-2 ounces sliced pepperoni or other toppings of choice

Steps:

  • Place rack in the upper-middle position in the oven. Preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  • Cut the loaf of bread in half crosswise, and then cut each piece in half horizontally to make 4 equal pieces.
  • Place the bread cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the crust with the olive oil.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic powder and salt. Flip the bread cut-side up and brush the cut side with the melted butter mixture.
  • Bake the bread (cut-side up) until it's browned on the edges, about 5 minutes.
  • Spread sauce evenly on each piece of toasted bread. Top with mozzarella, then Parmesan, and finally the pepperoni or other optional toppings (in that order). Return to the oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and starting to brown.
  • Let the pizza rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Use a high-quality French bread for the best results. A good French bread will be crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
  • Don't overload the French bread with toppings. Too many toppings will make the bread soggy and difficult to cook evenly.
  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor. Fresh vegetables, meats, and cheeses will make a big difference in the taste of your pizza.
  • Don't overcook the pizza. The French bread should be crispy on the outside and the cheese should be melted and bubbly, but the bread should not be dry or hard.
  • Serve the pizza immediately after it is cooked. This will ensure that the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted and gooey.

Conclusion:

French bread pizza is a quick and easy meal that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a great way to use up leftover ingredients and it is also a fun and creative way to get kids involved in the kitchen. With a little planning, you can make a French bread pizza that is even better than the frozen kind.
