BEST EVER HAMBURGER SOUP

Best Ever Hamburger Soup image

Don't be fooled by the title of this soup. It has wonderful flavor and is so hearty that it can be used as the main course along with some homemade bread. It is delicious. I make it a lot in the winter months when we have a lot of snow--it warms you up. You may use rice in place of the barley, or a little of both.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb lean ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 slice bread, cubed (optional)
2 tablespoons catsup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients.
  • Shape into 4 patties, about 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
  • Place in square baking dish 8 x 8 x 2-inches.
  • If desired, brush each patty with additional catsup.
  • Cover loosely and microwave on high (100%) 5 minutes; turn dish one-quarter turn.
  • Microwave until done, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • ALTERNATE COOKING METHOD: Grill to desired doneness.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your burgers.
  • Season your burgers well. Don't be afraid to use plenty of salt and pepper. You can also add other spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Cook your burgers to your desired doneness. If you like your burgers rare, cook them for 2-3 minutes per side. For medium-rare, cook them for 4-5 minutes per side. For medium, cook them for 6-7 minutes per side. For well-done, cook them for 8-9 minutes per side.
  • Let your burgers rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the juices redistribute throughout the burger, making it more flavorful and juicy.
  • Serve your burgers on toasted buns with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.

Conclusion:

The perfect hamburger is a thing of beauty. It's juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. With the right ingredients and a little bit of effort, you can make the best hamburger ever at home. So fire up the grill and get cooking!
