Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 c Crisco
1 c lightly salted butter (regular salted butter will work too)
2 Tbsp meringue powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract (may want to use a clear vanilla for a pure white frosting)
1 tsp butter flavoring
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/4 tsp orange extract
1/4 tsp lemon extract
2 lb powdered sugar (must be brand name - store brand will not work)
5-6 Tbsp warm water
1/4 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. In a small cup, measure out water and salt. Set aside and let the salt dissolve.

  • 4. On low speed, gradually add the powdered sugar until well combined. It will get clumpy after the whole 2lbs. has been distributed.
  • 5. Continue on low speed and gradually add salt/water mix. Add more water to frosting if necessary.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality butter. The better the butter, the better the buttercream. Look for unsalted butter with a fat content of at least 80%.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This will take several minutes. Be patient and don't rush it. The more air you incorporate into the mixture, the lighter and fluffier the buttercream will be.
  • Add the flavorings and colorings gradually. Start with a small amount and add more to taste. If you add too much, the buttercream can become overpowered by the flavor or color.
  • Chill the buttercream before using. This will help it to firm up and make it easier to pipe or spread.
  • If the buttercream is too thick, add a little milk or cream. If it is too thin, add a little more confectioners' sugar.

Conclusion:

The perfect buttercream frosting is light, fluffy, and flavorful. It should be easy to pipe or spread, and it should hold its shape well. With a little practice, you can make delicious buttercream frosting that will take your cakes and cupcakes to the next level.
