BEA'S THIN BBQ SAUCE

Bea's Thin BBQ Sauce image

This is a thin BBQ sauce we use on our chicken or pork at times. I like doubling the recipe so I'll always have it on hand. It's also a good base to make sticky sauce for grilled chicken when we prefer something a little different. 7/21/14

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 c vinegar
1 c water
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
2 Tbsp molasses
1 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp dry mustard
salt & pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Add all ingredients to a saucepan as listed. Slowly bring to a boil on medium heat then decrease heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or so. As far as the vinegar, I use either apple cider or white.
  • 2. I have been told that it doesn't require refrigeration but I store mine in the fridge. It lasts indefinitely.
  • 3. NOTE: When I want a sticky sauce I simply add about 3 TBSP of honey, about 1/4 cup corn syrup, about 2/3 cup catchup and about 1/4 cup butter to 1 cup of the above recipe. All of these ingredients are approximate amounts.
