BAVARIAN MINTS

A family favorite from many years ago.

Provided by Martha Benner

Categories     Candies

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
12 oz milk chocolate chips
1 Tbsp butter
1 can(s) sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp peppermint extract

Steps:

  • 1. Melt chips and butter in double boiler or in the microwave. Add other ingredients and mix well.
  • 2. Pour into a buttered 9x13" pan, cool and cut into small pieces.
  • 3. Keep in covered container in the refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Use fresh mint leaves. Fresh mint leaves will give your mints the best flavor. If you can't find fresh mint, you can use dried mint, but the flavor will be less intense.
  • Don't overcook the sugar mixture. The sugar mixture should be cooked until it reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149 degrees Celsius). If you overcook it, the mints will be hard and brittle.
  • Let the mints cool completely. Before you enjoy your mints, let them cool completely. This will help them to set and harden.
  • Store the mints in an airtight container. Once the mints are cool, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This will help them to stay fresh for up to two weeks.

Conclusion:

Bavarian mints are a delicious and easy-to-make candy that are perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up fresh mint leaves. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make your own delicious batch of Bavarian mints.
