Tips:

  • Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before you start. This will help it mix smoothly and avoid lumps.
  • Use unsalted butter for the best flavor. Salted butter can make the frosting too salty.
  • If you don't have vanilla extract, you can use 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste or 1/2 teaspoon of ground vanilla bean.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the frosting to help balance out the sweetness. You can also add a few drops of lemon juice or orange zest for a citrusy flavor.
  • If you're using the frosting on a cake, make sure the cake is completely cool before you apply it. Otherwise, the frosting will melt and slide off the cake.
  • Store the frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Basic cream cheese frosting is a versatile and delicious topping for cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking with different flavors and colors. So next time you're looking for a simple and tasty frosting, give this basic cream cheese frosting a try.
