Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 mozzarella sticks
1 egg
2 Tbsp flour
5 Tbsp bread crumbs
2 Tbsp parmesan cheese
a dollop of olive oil, or cooking spray

Steps:

  • 1. Cut the cheese sticks in half, making 24 slices, then put the slices in the freezer until completely frozen
  • 2. Beat the egg in a small bowl. Use a separate bowl to combine the bread crumbs and parmesan cheese
  • 3. To bread the cheese sticks: First dip the frozen cheese stick into the flour, then into the egg, then into the bread crumb mixture
  • 4. Once all of the 24 sticks are coated, place them on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil coated with a few drops of olive oil or sprayed with cooking spray (this will keep cleanup to a minimum, and keep the sticks from sticking!)
  • 5. Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for about 4 minutes, or until crisp. They need to be watched closely so they don't melt completely!

Categories     Cheese

Yield 24 sticks

Number Of Ingredients 9

12 sticks part-skim mozzarella string cheese
1/4 cup whole wheat or plain breadcrumbs
1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon dried basil
1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg

Steps:

  • 1. Cut cheese sticks in half and freeze until hard, about 30 minutes. 2. In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, oregano, and garlic powder. In a separate small bowl, add the flour. In a third small bowl, add the egg and whisk well. 3. Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Dip frozen cheese sticks into the flour, shaking off any excess flour. Next, dip into the egg and then coat with the breadcrumbs mixture. Make sure you coat the cheese sticks well, including the ends. Place sticks on prepared baking sheet. When all of the sticks are coated, freeze on the sheet for at least 15 minutes, or until ready to bake. Don't skip this step! You need to freeze them before baking so they don't ooze out in the oven. 4. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place the cheese sticks in the oven and bake for 4-5 minutes, turn sticks over and bake for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until sticks are golden brown and soft. You don't want the cheese to ooze out. Serve warm with marinara sauce. http://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/baked-mozzarella-sticks/

Tips:

  • Use fresh mozzarella. Fresh mozzarella will melt better and have a creamier texture than pre-shredded mozzarella.
  • Cut the mozzarella sticks into even sizes. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Coat the mozzarella sticks in a mixture of flour, eggs, and bread crumbs. This will help them stay crispy.
  • Bake the mozzarella sticks at a high temperature. This will help them brown and get crispy.
  • Serve the mozzarella sticks with your favorite dipping sauce. Marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or honey mustard are all popular choices.

Conclusion:

Baked mozzarella sticks are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for parties or game day. With just a few simple ingredients, you can have a batch of crispy, gooey mozzarella sticks that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy snack, give baked mozzarella sticks a try!
